Finding Dad: A Family History Mystery written by Amber Benson was recently shown again on Channel 5.  The good news for fans who missed it on Friday, the 29th of March or who want to watch it again, it has been added to the My 5 streaming service for a limited time only.

In 2023, Amber added to her growing body of work as a writer for television when she wrote the script for Family History Mysteries: Buried Past which is based on a series of novels by Brynn Bonner.  The movie had its US premiere on the 8th of January that year which as many fans will know is Amber's birthday. It was shown in the US on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. Here it’s been shown under the alternative title Finding Dad: A Family History Mystery.

When it was shown this time, it was still advertised under the name Finding Dad: A Family History Mystery. However, when aired on Channel 5 and My 5 this time the US title of Family History Mysteries: Buried Past appears. I mention this slightly strange fact in case it causes confusion for anyone who wants to watch it. Remember to search for it under the name Finding Dad.

The story centres on Sophie McClaren, played by Janel Parrish, who is a genealogist. She brings families together using her expertise and ability to dig into the past to find answers. Sophie's skills and knowledge shall be tested like never before when she discovers her close friend Jonathan is in need of a bone marrow transplant. Help is on hand from Jonathan's twin brother Jackson who was close to Sophie at one time. Together Sophie and Jackson search for the twins’ birth father in a bid to save Jonathan. As Sophie and Jackson work together it gives her the push to finally look into her own past.

I have posted the US trailer below. Please note it does contain spoilers.
Finding Dad: A Family History Mystery will be available from May 5 until the 28th of May 2024. This is a free streaming service and can be accessed via Channel 5.com or the My 5 App and is currently only available to viewers inside the United Kingdom.

Amber has written for Hallmark on three previous occasions including Murder in Mind & Death By Design, two movies in the popular Morning Show Mysteries series. They were based on a series of novels by Al Roker and Dick Lochte. Amber also wrote the festive romantic movie A Family Christmas Gift, this was an original story written by Amber and she also co-wrote the teleplay.

It's exciting that Amber’s latest TV mystery is available on demand once again in the UK. Watch it while you can!

Here is some exciting news for fans living in the UK. ‘Finding Dad: A Family History Mystery’, written by Amber Benson, is being shown on UK TV again on Friday the 29th of March.

In January 2023, Amber added to her growing body of work as a writer for television when she wrote the script for ‘Family History Mysteries: Buried Past’ which is based on a series of novels by Brynn Bonner. ‘Family History Mysteries: Buried Past’ had its US premiere on the 8th of January which as many fans will know is Amber's birthday. It was shown in the US on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.

It's now set to be shown again in the UK on Friday but is being advertised in listings under its UK title of ‘Finding Dad: A Family History Mystery’.

The story centres on Sophie McClaren (played by Janel Parrish) who is a genealogist. She brings families together using her expertise and ability to dig into the past to find answers. Sophie's skills and knowledge shall be tested like never before when she discovers her close friend Jonathan needs a bone marrow transplant. Help is on hand from Jonathan's twin brother Jackson who also happens to be Sophie's ex. Together Sophie and Jackson search for the twins' birth father in a bid to save Jonathan. As Sophie and Jackson work together it gives her the push to finally look into her own past.

It will be shown on Channel 5 in the UK on Friday (29th of March) in the afternoon at 2:15 PM it will also be shown an hour later on Channel 5+1 at 3:15 PM. I don't yet know if it will be available via Channel 5’s streaming platform My 5. The last time Channel 5 showed Finding Dad, they did but I can't guarantee it will be the same this time. I will check and if it is available I will post a further update to let you all know.

I have posted the US trailer below please note it does contain spoilers

A Family Christmas Gift - Written By Amber Benson To Be Shown on UK TV Next Week

Picture
Exciting news for fans in the UK. A Family Christmas Gift written by Amber will be shown on UK TV four times next week. This fun festive movie will be shown on Christmas 24 and sister channel Christmas 24+.

Amber wrote the original story for A Family Christmas Gift and she also co-wrote the teleplay with Alex Wright. The movie was written for the Hallmark Network in the USA.

A Family Christmas Gift centres on Amber, a busy New York-based executive played by Holly Robinson Pete. She is persuaded by her Aunt Dora (Patti Labelle) to join her for Christmas in Colorado and help plan the annual Christmas concert.

Holly Robinson Pete's name may be familiar to Amber fans as she plays the role of Billie Blessings in Morning Show Mysteries. Amber wrote the script/teleplay for A Murder In Mind and Death By Design two movies in the popular series in 2019.

A Family Christmas Gift will be shown at:
11pm on Monday the 27th of November
10am on Tuesday the 28th of November on (Christmas 24+)
5pm on Wednesday the 29th of November (and again at 8pm on Christmas 24+)

Unfortunately, Christmas 24 doesn't seem to have a reliable online presence. I have Sky so I can confirm Christmas 24 is on Sky Channel 325 and Christmas 24+ is on 326.

As far as I'm currently aware, Christmas 24 and Christmas 24+ are still available on the Virgin Media and BT TV Platforms. I don't have up-to-date channel numbers for these platforms. I would advise people to check their onscreen TV Guides for details.

I have embedded a trailer and an extended a sneak peek clip of A Family Christmas Gift. There are some spoilers so if you would rather wait-and-see what Amber has in store for us then I'd avoid it for now. I just wanted to place it here in case there are some fans who would like to see more.
This is a fun family film and a real treat for Amber fans I am excited that fans in the UK will get another chance to see it. A big thank you to my friend and fellow Amber fan Samantha for giving me a heads up about these showings.

Amber Benson To Star In Upcoming Movie I Saw The TV Glow

10/4/2022

If you follow our dedicated Facebook and Twitter feeds you will have seen the hugely exciting news that Amber is set to star in upcoming horror thriller, I Saw The TV Glow. This will be the first time Amber has appeared in an on-screen role since she starred as Professor Samantha Rand in 2019's The Nightmare Gallery.

As many fans will know in recent years Amber has transitioned from acting to writing, including the Calliope-Reaper Jones series and the Echo Park Coven Series of novels. Following the completion of these successful series Amber began writing for television. In 2017 she wrote Oscar Pistorius: Blade Runner Killer and 2018’s Terror in The Woods followed in 2020 by A Murder To Remember. These three movies were true crime films based on real-life events for the Lifetime Network.

Then Amber returned to fiction writing with A Murder In Mind and Death By Design, both part of the popular Morning Show Mysteries series for Hallmark. As well as A Family Christmas Gift she wrote both the original story and co-wrote the teleplay for this charming festive movie, again for Hallmark. Amber has also been developing The Witches of Echo Park, the first in her Echo Park Coven trilogy of novels for television. These are some of the most recent projects in her impressive and growing body of work as a writer.

In August however The Hollywood Reporter exclusively broke the news that Amber would be returning to the screen as part of the cast for the horror thriller, I Saw The TV Glow. I was both surprised and delighted that Amber is returning to the screen after a few years away. The Hollywood Reporter states that the film is now in postproduction and Amber shared her own excitement at being part of the film. Below is a screenshot of the tweet from her official account.

I was lucky enough to meet Amber again at the Cross Roads 5 Convention in Birmingham last weekend. During a Q&A session with fans I asked Amber if she could share any more about I Saw The TV Glow. She said, "If you like genre shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Supernatural you will love this film."

A big thank you to Amber for being kind enough to answer my question!

When more information about, I Saw The TV Glow is available I will post a further update. In the meantime to read the full article from the Hollywood Reporter click here.

My apologies for the long delay in posting this update in the latest Amber News section. I've had a particularly busy time with work commitments and planning my trip to join fellow fans at Cross Roads 5. A big thank you to fellow Amber fan Laragh for giving me a heads up about this exciting news.

Here is some good news for UK Amber fans as Morning Show Mysteries: Death By Design written by Amber will be shown on UK TV again today. Amber has forged a successful career as a novelist as both the author of the Calliope Reaper-Jones series and The Echo Park Coven Trilogy amongst others, in recent years Amber has focused on writing for television.

In 2019 she got the chance to pen two fictional murder mysteries for the small screen, first she wrote the teleplay for Morning Show Mysteries: A Murder In Mind. Then quickly followed this up by writing Morning Show Mysteries: Death By Design. This is the second time Amber has written for this popular series both of which aired on the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Channel in the USA.

The Morning Show Mysteries series centers on Billie Blessings (Holly Robinson Peete) a successful restaurateur who also hosts the cooking segment on Wake Up West Coast, a popular TV show. Billie was once suspected of murder but after clearing her name with the help of Detective Ian Jackson (Rick Fox) the two remained friends and are growing even closer as they find themselves at the heart of another mystery.

In Death By Design Billie’s best friend Marian is hired to redecorate the Wake Up West Coast studio. The decorating comes to a sudden and shocking halt when Marian’s twin sister is found murdered. So naturally Billie and Ian are hot on the trail of the killer.

The exciting news for Amber fans in the UK is that Morning Show Mysteries: Death By Design will be shown again today at 2:15 PM on Channel 5 and at 3:15 PM on Channel 5+1.

There are different channel numbers depending on which digital TV platform you use. I would check on-screen guides and any local channel listings for the correct channel numbers.  I've embedded the US trailer below so you can get a taste of the movie.
This will be a Bank Holiday treat for all fans in the UK, I'm sorry for the short notice on this particular post I only found out they were showing it again this morning I hope you still have time to catch it.

After years of working as a successful novelist on her Calliope Reaper-Jones series and The Echo Park Coven Trilogy she also co-authored The Ghosts of Albion series with Christopher Golden. Amber is now developing a growing body of work as a writer for television.

She researched and wrote the scripts for Oscar Pistorius: Blade Runner Killer and Terror in The Woods for the Lifetime network, describing the events surrounding two real-life tragic murder cases. In 2019 she got the chance to pen two fictional murder mystery for the small screen the first of these was Morning Show Mysteries: A Murder In Mind for Hallmark which aired on their Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Channel in the USA.

The Morning Show Mysteries series centers on Billie Blessings (Holly Robinson Peete) a successful restaurateur who also hosts the cooking segment on Wake Up West Coast, a popular TV show. Billie was once suspected of murder but after clearing her name with the help of Detective Ian Jackson (Rick Fox) the pair remained friends and occasionally find themselves at the heart of another mystery.

In A Murder In Mind Billie comes to the aid of a friend and former employee who has recently got her big break in the lead role of a brand-new TV drama Kelso's Law. Excitement turns to horror as a dead body is uncovered. The finger of suspicion soon falls on Billie's friend after it's revealed that she was being blackmailed by the victim. Billie again teams up with Detective Jackson in a race against time to clear her friend and uncover the identity of the killer.

Amber fans in the UK will have another chance to see Morning Show Mysteries: A Murder In Mind on Tuesday the 1st of June at 2:15 PM on Channel 5 and at 3:15 PM on Channel 5+1.

There are different channel numbers depending on which digital TV platform you use. I would check on-screen guides and any local channel listings for the correct channel numbers.

The Channel 5 website has nothing listed at all in the 2:15 PM time slot. It is displaying on my electronic channel guide though so I can only assume the omission from the website is a mistake. However if anyone sees or knows anything different let me know via email or our social media channels. I've embedded the US trailer below so you can get a taste of the movie.
I'm thrilled that UK fans will get another chance to see and enjoy Amber's words in another exciting mystery.

Fans in the USA will have the opportunity to see its premiere on Sunday 2 of August 8PM ET on Lifetime.

A Murder To Remember Written By Amber Benson Premiering In The USA On 2 August On Lifetime.

Picture
A few days ago, Amber announced via her official Twitter account that she has written A Murder To Remember, a brand-new movie for Lifetime Network. A Murder To Remember is inspired by real events and based upon true crime author Ann Rule’s book, Empty Promises.

The movie tells the story of a young couple celebrating their first wedding anniversary by going on a camping trip. When events take a deadly turn, a young woman accepts an offer of help from another camper but will it be a decision she lives to regret.

After years of working as a successful novelist on her Calliope Reaper-Jones series, The Echo Park Coven Trilogy and co-authoring The Ghosts of Albion series with Christopher Golden, Amber is developing a growing body of work as a writer for television.

A Murder To Remember is the third movie Amber has written for The Lifetime Network following on from 2017's Oscar Pistorius: Blade Runner Killer and 2018’s Terror in The Woods both detailing two tragic real-life murder cases. Last year Amber returned to fiction writing with A Murder In Mind and Death By Design both part of the popular Morning Show Mysteries series for Hallmark.

A Murder To Remember will be the directorial debut of Robin Givens and when Amber posted the news on her own Twitter feed she was quick to praise Robin and congratulate her on her success before modestly adding that she'd written the movie. Click here to see Amber's original tweet and you can see a video of Robin discussing the movie.

A Murder To Remember will have its US premiere on Sunday the 2nd of August at 8 PM ET.  Unfortunately The Lifetime USA website is not accessible to anyone outside of the US and when I tried to access it, it defaults to the UK website which doesn't have any information on the movie at the moment. I can't post the link but it should be available to anyone in the US via a search engine.

If like me, you live in the UK I have found articles on variety.com and meaww.com where you can find out more information about A Murder To Remember. Click the link below to see the trailer:

https://www.facebook.com/lifetime/videos/721567791959468/

I’d like to wish Amber every success with the movie and I hope fans in the UK will have the opportunity to see it in the future. I hope everyone who gets to see A Murder To Remember enjoys it.

Joe
