Amber Is The Special Guest On A Brand-New Episode Of Slayerfest ‘98 Podcast

Here is my second exciting update of the day. Recently Amber was the special guest on a brand-new episode of the Slayerfest ‘98 podcast and she shared a post on her official Twitter account yesterday to let fans know how they could listen.

Amber has been a guest on the podcast before and this time she is joined by hosts Ian Carlos Crawford, Dana Piccoli, and LaToya Ferguson. In this episode they discuss Buffy of course and a whole lot more.

Amber describes her very first day working on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and encountering The Gentleman as she made her debut in the iconic Hush episode in Season 4. Her relationship with fans and why it's so important to her to have a genuine connection with them is something she misses due to the cancellation of conventions due to COVID - 19. The group talk about fashion on Buffy and the famous dress Amber wore in Once More With Feeling.

Amber talks openly and honestly about Tara’s exit and gives what in my opinion is a very fair and balanced view of the situation as she saw it. While not shying away from the fact mistakes were made and this storyline could and should have been done differently. She also touches upon why she opted not to return in Season 7.

It's not only Buffy that is discussed however as Amber talks about her ambition to be a show runner and spending her time in lockdown working on the pilot episode of The Witches of Echo Park TV series which will be based on her Echo Park Coven Trilogy of novels. She describes the challenge of adapting something from page to screen and also reveals a few snippets of information that I don't think fans have heard before which is very exciting. The Witches of Echo Park pilot is not the only thing Amber has been working on as she talks about writing A Murder To Remember, a movie based on a true crime story which had its premiere earlier this year on Lifetime in the USA.

The Slayerfest ‘98 podcast is available to listen and download from:

PodBeen

Apple Podcasts

Spotify (click on the hyperlinks)

Amber talks about a range of subjects honestly with compassion and fairness. This is why I personally admire Amber so much, not just for her talent for creating things and bringing characters to life but for being the genuine, kind and intelligent person she is. There are some serious topics tackled in this podcast but there are also some really funny moments. For all these reasons I’ve outlined above if you get a chance please give this podcast a listen.

Earlier this month Amber joined hosts Ellie Brigida and Leigh Holmes Foster as the special guest in an episode of The Lez Hangout podcast.

Ellie and Leigh discuss the relationship between Willow played by Alyson Hannigan and Tara (Amber Benson) in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. They discuss the impact of their relationship and why it remains so important to fans all these years later. Willow and Tara’s relationship was a key part of Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s storylines for three seasons and broke new ground as they were the first long-term openly gay couple on network television in the USA. Ellie and Leigh guide us through the complete timeline of Willow and Tara's relationship highlighting all the key events and much more.

Amber joins them to talk about what it was like playing Tara, the importance of the role and the impact of working in a time of increased censorship. How she, Alyson and the show’s creator Joss Whedon worked around some restrictions to bring key moments of Willow and Tara’s relationship to the screen. This was not only important to the show’s storyline but fans and the wider LGBTQ community as well. Amber also takes part in a Q & Gay, this is a must listen for fans of Amber and/or Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

This was a really entertaining listen and was a fun way to spend my afternoon. Please Note it contains discussion on mature themes and spoilers for Buffy the Vampire Slayer too.

There was excitement for fans a few days ago as Amber was one of the special guests on the latest episode of the Slayerfest 98 Podcast titled Amber Benson's Insect Reflection.

Together with fellow special guest Louis Peitzman, hosts Ian Carlos Crawford and Mathew Rodriguez they discuss Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 5 Episode 6 “Family”.

As many fans will know Amber played the role of Tara Maclay on Buffy the Vampire Slayer for three years between 1999-2002. Family gives us a glimpse of what Tara’s life was like before arriving in Sunnydale. I'm not going to give many details away here because I still meet people who are just discovering Buffy and/or Amber’s work so I’m avoiding spoilers for anyone who might want to discover Buffy for themselves. It will come as no surprise to fellow Amber fans that it is one of my all time favourite Buffy episodes.

The group discusses key scenes from “Family” and Amber tells us her own Buffy origin story of how she was cast to play Tara as well as talking about her experience on the show and working with the cast. Amber lifts the lid on some of the special effects used in "Family" episode, favourite Buffy outfits, on screen kisses and more.

Last Thursday Amber was the guest on the Switchblade Sisters podcast. In each episode film critic April Wolfe invites a female actor, writer, director or producer to discuss one of their favourite action or genre films. As Amber has all of these credits to her name she was an ideal guest. Amber's chosen film was 1980s horror classic Night Of The Comet. It had a big impact on her at an early age in part due to it having two young female protagonists Amber and April talk about the film’s key messages and themes and much more.

They also delve into filmmaking and how Amber made her first self financed film Chance which she wrote and directed as well as playing the title role opposite former Buffy the Vampire Slayer co star James Marsters. It's a wonderful film and to find out more click the hyperlink to visit our dedicated Chance page. Amber also discusses her role of Tara on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and her 5 book Calliope Reaper-Jones series of novels. I think Calliope is a fantastic character and I love the world Amber created. To find out more please visit our visit our dedicated Calliope Reaper-Jones section by clicking the hyperlink above. They also discuss the need for female characters to be both complex and at times flawed.

I thoroughly enjoyed this podcast, it's an absolute must listen for any Amber fan. Her enthusiasm for writing and creating shines through and she's funny, honest and insightful. I'll be honest I hadn't even heard of Night Of the Comet before listening to this podcast but I was so intrigued I ordered the film online so I could watch it myself.

Earlier this month Amber was a guest on Blumhouse’s Shock Waves Podcast. It's taken me longer than I would have liked to get this update online. I had a busy few days of work and study I am only now catching up. The good news is there's still time to listen to this funny and entertaining podcast.

This all-female episode is hosted by Rebekah McKendry guests include Shock Waves regular Brea Grant, Mali Elfman, Ciara Aumentado and the amazing Amber Benson of course. In this episode the panel talk about witches, witchcraft and their memories and feelings about witches growing up. They also look at the way they are portrayed on film, television and the media at large. They discuss the rise of escape rooms and whether a particular one is full of moustaches. It's worth listening just for that part trust me on this. There is also some excellent film recommendations in there too and Amber is as always smart, honest and very funny.
