Amber is a talented television and film actress with numerous credits to her name. What some fans may not know is Amber has an ever growing body of work as an author. In recent years Amber has also added a number of credits writing for television. Below is a list of her work. As if starring as Tara Maclay on TV show Buffy The Vampire Slayer wasn't enough. In 2001, Amber teamed up with awarding winning author Christopher Golden to write a two part comic book. Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Willow and Tara: "Wilderness” and “Wannablessedbe” Willow and Tara decide to take Dawn for a picnic however their fun day soon threatens to turn deadly...well this is Sunnydale after all. In 2003 Dark Horse Comics re-released both these comics as a graphic novel.
In 2002, Amber again teamed with Christopher Golden to created Ghosts of Albion for the BBC. This was an online series set in Victorian London chronicling the adventures of siblings William & Tamara Swift. They are the mystical protectors of Albion (England to you and me) against demons and dark magic. It proved so successful that Amber and Christopher went on to write a novella and 2 full novels in which the Swifts continue their fight against evil.
On the 29th of October 2015 Amber Benson and Christopher Golden revealed they are planning to add to their Ghosts Of Albion universe by writing a brand-new short story in the near future. They announced this in an episode of “The Three Guys With Beards Podcast” which Christopher co-hosts no timescale or any further information was given. If this goes ahead it will be the first new Ghosts Of Albion story since 2006.
Demon Father John’s Pinwheel Blues a comic book. It's a dark tale told over three issues centering around vampire children. It was re-released in 2011 as the graphic novel Blood Stained Sword which also contains the story of the same name written by Dan Wickline. Both stories were illustrated by Ben Templesmith.
In 2005, Four Letter Worlds: 1 a collection of short stories which includes Loss penned by Amber. A grieving man is desperate to see his lost love one more time and is willing to try anything to make it happen.
In 2006, Amber, and regular writing partner Christopher Golden, released The Seven Whistlers. When Rose Kerrigan visits her sick grandfather at his care home he warns her that there is evil in the world and it’s after him. Rose is sure this is just a symptom of his illness but after a late night encounter with a shadowy presence and hearing a terrible whistling unlike anything she has heard before, Rose begins to wonder if evil is lurking and is it coming for her? In May 2017 A paperback edition of The Seven Whistlers has been now been released.
Amber has continued her love of comic book heroes, writing a short story Produce - Little Bertha has spotted something bright red at the grocery store and has to investigate. Included in a collection of stories featuring Hell Boy titled Hell Boy: Oddest Jobs Edited by Christopher Golden.
2007 - 2013 The Calliope Reaper-Jones Series marked Amber’s debut as a solo novelist. Calliope is a young woman struggling to make it in New York City. She is desperate to escape the family business which is easier said than done when you are Death’s Daughter. Death's Daughter was followed Cat's Claw & Serpent's Storm, originally intended as a trilogy Amber added two more books to the series How To Be Death. The fifth and final book in the series The Golden Age of Death was released in January 2013. Amber wrote a children’s book Among the Ghosts which is set within same universe and centers on Noh, a childhood friend of Calliope. In, 2010 Amber teamed again up with Christopher Golden to write Lights Out. (a radio drama) Jasmine Hyde who Ghosts of Albion fans will recognise as the voice Tamara Swift plays Sarah the newest inmate at Her Majesty’s Prison Stanwick. Prison life hold no fear for Sarah well that is until she plunged in headfirst into a dark and a potentially deadly mystery. This chilling tale was made by the BBC as part of The Man in Black series. It was originally broadcast on BBC Radio 7 which has now become BBC Radio 4 Extra. Unfortunately it is not currently available to buy however we let you know when it’s due to be aired again.
In 2011, Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Tales was released, a brand new collection of stories set in the Buffyverse. It includes "Innocent" by Amber her story is set at the height of the French Revolution. Claudine (the slayer) learns that vampires aren't the only evil lurking in the world.
In 2011, Courts of the Fay a collection of short stories which includes "The Green Man" penned by Amber. A very dark tale in which a young girl faces an almost impossible dilemma.
In 2012, Mademoiselle Consuela and Her Army of One (short story) Human civilisation is on the verge of being wiped out thanks to an unrelenting zombie horde. A young girl named Consuela is in hiding her only protection a WarBot reprogrammed to protect her but as the years roll by Consuela begins to wonder whether her WarBot is keeping her safe or has she become it’s prisoner? This story is now available to buy from iTunes and the Kindle store.
In 2012, 21st Century Dead: A Zombie Anthology - edited by Christopher Golden collection of short stories from a group of acclaimed writers including Amber who penned a story called "Antiparallelogram" - In a bleak future world an orphan is desperate to avoid a dire fate and a mysterious store may hold the key.
In 2012, Amber wrote the foreword for Buffy: The Making of a Slayer (The Official Guide) A brand new book celebrating the series written by Nancy Holder.
In 2012, An Apple for the Creature edited by Charlene Harris is a collection of short stories by a select group of authors including Amber who has written "Callie Meet Happy", featuring Calliope Reaper-Jones, the lead character in Amber's hugely successful Calliope Reaper-Jones series. Callie’s difficulty with creating worm holes lands her in big trouble.
In 2013, Amber wrote "Blurring The Lines" an Essay included in the book fic: Why Fanfiction Is Taking Over The World by Anne Jamison. Amber brings a unique perspective to the subject having played a character who became a fan fiction favourite & now a professional writer. Blurring The Lines is honest, intelligent & funny a must read for any Amber fan.
In 2014, Amber has co-written a short story with Jeffrey J. Mariotte titled AMUSE-BOUCHE. This story is included in a brand new anthology Dark Duets edited by Christopher Golden. As the title of the book suggests each of the stories featured is a collaboration and what makes it unique is that none of the authors teaming up have written together before.
2015 - 2017 The Echo Park Coven Series
In 2013 following the completion of The Golden Age of Death the fifth and final book in her hugely successful Calliope Reaper-Jones series Amber announced she had begun work on the first of a brand-new series of urban fantasy novels set in Los Angeles, The Witches of Echo Park.
Lyse MacAllister is enjoying her quiet life in Georgia when she receives some devastating news, her great-aunt Eleanora is desperately ill. Lyse rushes back to Echo Park Los Angeles to be with the woman who raised her. This is a long overdue homecoming for Lyse and a sad one as she tries to come to terms with her great-aunt's illness. Lyse’s world is turned upside down when Eleanora reveals not only that she is a witch and a member of the Echo Park coven but she also needs Elyse to take her place.
To accept means not only stepping into a mysterious world she is unprepared for but also putting her life in danger as this is a dark time for the coven there is a battle ahead and it may well prove to be their last. The Witches Of Echo Park was released on 6 January 2015 not only in paperback but also as an audiobook which was narrated by Amber herself.

In 2016, The Last Dream Keeper book 2 in Amber's The Echo Park Coven Series Following the death of her great-aunt Eleanora, Lyse has taken her place as head of the Echo Park coven. A group of fanatics have infiltrated The Witches Council with a deadly purpose and only one witch is prophesied to be able to stop them meaning Lyse and her blood sisters must protect her at all costs. In March 2017, is Star and Marco’s Guide to Mastering Every Dimension! (Children's Book) Based on the hit Disney cartoon Star vs The Forces of Evil. Amber has team up with Star vs The Forces of Evil's supervising producer Dominic Bisognano to create the first original book spun off from the series featuring band new never before seen content. In May 2017, The End of Magic, the 3rd and Final book in Amber's The Echo Park Coven Series. "The secret is out and humankind is once again learning of the existence of magic while The Flood turns the world against all of the remaining covens. Lyse must rebuild her coven fractured by recent traumatic and deadly events. She must do it quickly because the final battle between good and evil looms large on the horizon and without help from her fellow witches all humanity could be lost." In August 2017, Clueless Senior Year (Graphic Novel) is the follow-up to Amy Heckerling’s hit 1995 movie Clueless staring Alicia Silverstone. Amber and Sarah Kuhn's all new and original story is an opportunity for fans of the movie to follow the ups and downs of Cher, Dionne and Tai during their final year of high school. In October 2017, Don't Go Alone - A collection of short of stories by Christopher Golden and some top authors including Amber of course. At the moment there is no news on which of their collaborations will be included in Don't Go Alone or if they have written a brand-new story.
In November 2017, Oscar Pistorius: Blade Runner Killer - Amber has written this original movie for the Lifetime Network. A film which looks at the life of former Paralympic Champion and Olympic competitor Oscar Pistorius who was convicted of manslaughter of his girlfriend Reeve Steenkamp after her tragic death in 2013. In November 2017, Where Nightmares Come From The Art of Storytelling in The Horror Genre. This new book is edited by Joe Mynhardt and Eugene Johnson and is a collection of stories and articles from a number of authors and contributors examining storytelling within the horror genre. Amber is interviewed by Del Howison for a section of the book titled "Creating Magic From A Blank Piece Of Paper" as part of this piece Del also interviews Tom Holland, Fred Dekker and Kevin Tenney. In April 2018, Life Inside My Mind Amber is among a number of top authors contributing to a brand-new collection of essays where each author will share their personal experiences. The book will tackle subjects including neurodiversity, addiction, OCD, PTSD and more. In August 2018, Star vs The Forces of Evil: The Magic Book of Spells. The second original book to be based on the popular Disney cartoon Star vs The Forces of Evil. The Magic Book of Spells includes every spell featured in the show, the story of Mewni, as told by thirteen queens as well as secrets and magic from Star Butterfly herself. Amber will once again team up with series creator/writer Daron Nefcy, supervising producer/writer Dominic Bisignano and they are also joined by illustrator Devin Taylor. In October 2018, Terror in the Woods - Amber has written this original movie for the Lifetime Network. Inspired by true events Terror in the Woods tells the story of Rachel (Ella West Jerrier) and Kaitlyn (SophieGrace McCarthy) 12-year-old best friends living in a small town in Georgia, USA. They both love ghost stories one in particular caught their imagination, the legend of Suzerain a forest dwelling Demon. Their parents believe this is just harmless fun unaware that the friends are convinced the demon is not only real but will killer their families unless he receives a blood sacrifice. Rachel and Kaitlyn make the horrifying decision to sacrifice their friend Emily (Skylar Morgan Jones) thankfully however she survives the attack. The police launch an investigation into how and why this could have happened. Questions are asked about the mental health of Rachel and Kaitlyn while others wonder if the internet itself is to blame.
In November 2018, Clueless: One Last Summer (Graphic Novel) the sequel to Clueless: Senior Year co-written by Amber Benson & Sarah Kuhn. One Last Summer sees Cher, Dionne, and Tai embark on one last summer adventure before heading to college. In April 2019, Morning Show Mysteries: A Murder In Mind - The first time Amber has written a script/teleplay for a TV movie in the popular Morning Show Mystery series written for the Hallmark network. In a Murder In Mind Billie comes to the aid of a friend and former employee who has recently got her big break in the lead role of brand-new TV drama Kelso's Law. Excitement turns to horror as a dead body is uncovered. The finger of suspicion soon falls on Billie's friend after it's revealed that she was being blackmailed by the victim. Billie again teams up with Detective Jackson in a race against time to clear her friend and uncover the identity of the killer. Aired on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel in the USA. This will be the first in a series of scripts she will write for the series over the coming months.
In April 2019, Morning Show Mysteries: Death By Design - Billie’s best friend Marian is hired to redecorate the TV studio. Work comes to an end when Marian’s twin sister is found murdered and naturally Billie and Ian are on the case hot on the trail of the killer. This the second time Amber has written the script/teleplay for a TV movie in the popular Morning Show Mysteries series for the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Channel.
In 2019, Hex Life a collection of all new short stories edited by Rachel Autumn Deering. The book includes "This Skin” written by Amber. In the aftermath of a horrific event the young girl may have dark motives and even darker means at her disposal.
In Development - The Witches of Echo Park (TV Pilot) In April 2019 Amber revealed to an excited audience at Clexa Con that she has sold a pilot episode of The Witches of Echo Park. The pilot will be written by Amber and her writing partner Mo Perkins. The pilot will be based on The Echo Park Coven Trilogy of books written by Amber herself. No further details have been released and no time scales have been given for when the pilot will be shot. This is hugely exciting news for Amber fans and we have our fingers crossed that we will soon see these fantastic books brought from page to screen.
In Development Unnamed Pilot - Amber is the writer. In April 2016 Amber revealed to fans at Wales Comic Con that she had just sold her first pilot of a brand new TV series to a network. Few details have been released so far. We know it will involve a female serial killer. Amber may also take on other roles behind the camera role too.
In October 2023 Slayers: A Buffyverse Story brand-new immersive audio drama was released. Amber has co-written, co-directed and starred in this original all new story set in the world of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. This Audible Original will star several cast member returning to their roles including Amber. That's right for the first time in more than twenty year Amber will again play the role of Tara Maclay! In November 2017, Oscar Pistorius: Blade Runner Killer - Amber has written this original movie for the Lifetime Network. A film which looks at the life of former Paralympic Champion and Olympic competitor Oscar Pistorius who was convicted of manslaughter of his girlfriend Reeve Steenkamp after her tragic death in 2013. In November 2017, Where Nightmares Come From The Art of Storytelling in The Horror Genre. This new book is edited by Joe Mynhardt and Eugene Johnson and is a collection of stories and articles from a number of authors and contributors examining storytelling within the horror genre. Amber is interviewed by Del Howison for a section of the book titled "Creating Magic From A Blank Piece Of Paper" as part of this piece Del also interviews Tom Holland, Fred Dekker and Kevin Tenney. In April 2018, Life Inside My Mind Amber is among a number of top authors contributing to a brand-new collection of essays where each author will share their personal experiences. The book will tackle subjects including neurodiversity, addiction, OCD, PTSD and more. In August 2018, Star vs The Forces of Evil: The Magic Book of Spells. The second original book to be based on the popular Disney cartoon Star vs The Forces of Evil. The Magic Book of Spells includes every spell featured in the show, the story of Mewni, as told by thirteen queens as well as secrets and magic from Star Butterfly herself. Amber will once again team up with series creator/writer Daron Nefcy, supervising producer/writer Dominic Bisignano and they are also joined by illustrator Devin Taylor. In October 2018, Terror in the Woods - Amber has written this original movie for the Lifetime Network. Inspired by true events Terror in the Woods tells the story of Rachel (Ella West Jerrier) and Kaitlyn (SophieGrace McCarthy) 12-year-old best friends living in a small town in Georgia, USA. They both love ghost stories one in particular caught their imagination, the legend of Suzerain a forest dwelling Demon. Their parents believe this is just harmless fun unaware that the friends are convinced the demon is not only real but will killer their families unless he receives a blood sacrifice. Rachel and Kaitlyn make the horrifying decision to sacrifice their friend Emily (Skylar Morgan Jones) thankfully however she survives the attack. The police launch an investigation into how and why this could have happened. Questions are asked about the mental health of Rachel and Kaitlyn while others wonder if the internet itself is to blame.
In November 2018, Clueless: One Last Summer (Graphic Novel) the sequel to Clueless: Senior Year co-written by Amber Benson & Sarah Kuhn. One Last Summer sees Cher, Dionne, and Tai embark on one last summer adventure before heading to college. In April 2019, Morning Show Mysteries: A Murder In Mind - The first time Amber has written a script/teleplay for a TV movie in the popular Morning Show Mystery series written for the Hallmark network. In a Murder In Mind Billie comes to the aid of a friend and former employee who has recently got her big break in the lead role of brand-new TV drama Kelso's Law. Excitement turns to horror as a dead body is uncovered. The finger of suspicion soon falls on Billie's friend after it's revealed that she was being blackmailed by the victim. Billie again teams up with Detective Jackson in a race against time to clear her friend and uncover the identity of the killer. Aired on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel in the USA. This will be the first in a series of scripts she will write for the series over the coming months.
In April 2019, Morning Show Mysteries: Death By Design - Billie’s best friend Marian is hired to redecorate the TV studio. Work comes to an end when Marian’s twin sister is found murdered and naturally Billie and Ian are on the case hot on the trail of the killer. This the second time Amber has written the script/teleplay for a TV movie in the popular Morning Show Mysteries series for the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Channel.
In 2019, Hex Life a collection of all new short stories edited by Rachel Autumn Deering. The book includes "This Skin” written by Amber. In the aftermath of a horrific event the young girl may have dark motives and even darker means at her disposal.
In Development - The Witches of Echo Park (TV Pilot) In April 2019 Amber revealed to an excited audience at Clexa Con that she has sold a pilot episode of The Witches of Echo Park. The pilot will be written by Amber and her writing partner Mo Perkins. The pilot will be based on The Echo Park Coven Trilogy of books written by Amber herself. No further details have been released and no time scales have been given for when the pilot will be shot. This is hugely exciting news for Amber fans and we have our fingers crossed that we will soon see these fantastic books brought from page to screen.
In Development Unnamed Pilot - Amber is the writer. In April 2016 Amber revealed to fans at Wales Comic Con that she had just sold her first pilot of a brand new TV series to a network. Few details have been released so far. We know it will involve a female serial killer. Amber may also take on other roles behind the camera role too.
In October 2023 Slayers: A Buffyverse Story brand-new immersive audio drama was released. Amber has co-written, co-directed and starred in this original all new story set in the world of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. This Audible Original will star several cast member returning to their roles including Amber. That's right for the first time in more than twenty year Amber will again play the role of Tara Maclay!
