Fans in the UK can now watch Amber Benson as Tara Maclay in Buffy the Vampire Slayer via the free streaming service ITVX.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is now available in the UK, free, on ITV’s streaming service ITVX. Earlier this month all seven seasons were added to ITVX, which is free and supported by adverts. It’s the first time it's been on free-to-air television or free streaming service since 2022 when it was previously available from another UK broadcaster Channel 4.

ITVX can be watched on a range of devices including laptops, tablets, smart phones, smart TVs, games consoles, and more. There is also a premium option available if you wish to watch without adverts. For more information on how to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer see the hyperlink below.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer on ITVX

This will give Amber fans the chance to see her play the iconic and much-loved role of Tara Maclay who made her debut in "Hush" in season 4. Buffy remains much loved by fans even after more than two decades.

Buffy is still attracting new generations of fans even today so with this in mind, if you are a first-time viewer, there will be some spoilers below.

Amber played Tara Maclay for three seasons. Her shy smile, honesty, and loyalty made her a big hit with fans. Amber's dramatic exit from the show in 2002 was extremely controversial, especially among the LGBTQ community, and still provides a big talking point for fans to this day.

Tara & Willow (Alyson Hannigan) were the first long term openly gay couple on a US network television show. Amber played the role of Tara with both honesty and sensitivity, which earned her much deserved praise.

The role had a big impact on her life, and Amber continues to support the LGBTQ community. Amber’s impact on the Buffyverse goes far beyond her role on screen. Amber has co-written Willow and Tara comic books with her friend and fellow author Christopher Golden. Amber has also written her own short story about Claudine who was the Slayer at the time of the French Revolution.

In 2023, Slayers: A Buffyverse Story was released – an Audible Exclusive podcast series. It’s set within the Buffy verse thirteen years after “Chosen”, the final episode of the TV series. Amber co-wrote, co-directed, and reprised her role as Tara Maclay along with several of her co-stars and friends returning to the original roles they played in the TV series.

Here is some exciting news for Amber fans in the UK! Amber’s guest starring role in the US crime drama series Cold Case Will be shown on UK TV Channel ‘Quest Red’ next week.

‘Quest Red’ is a TV channel available on a number of platforms here in the UK. In January it started re-running the classic crime drama series Cold Case in which homicide detective Lily Rush played by Kathryn Morris delves into the Philadelphia Police Department’s cold cases in the hope of bringing killers to justice.

In 2003 Amber guest starred as Julia Hoffman in “Volunteers”; Episode 16 of Season 1. In this episode, the discovery of human remains leads Lily to reopen an unsolved missing person’s case from 1969.

It was first shown on ‘Quest Red’ in January this year and the good news for fans is it is set to be shown again next week. Cold Case “Volunteers” will be shown at 12:00am on Tuesday, the 16th of April. If you miss it fans will have a chance to catch it an hour later at 1:00am on ‘Quest Red +1’.

Unfortunately, Cold Case is not being shown on demand via the Discovery Pus app as it had been in January. This meant the episode was available to stream on demand for a limited time only. That doesn't appear to be the case this time however I will check after the episode airs just to be sure and if it is I will post another update.

I’m pleased fans in the UK will have another chance to see one of Amber’s guest-starring television roles.

Finding Dad: A Family History Mystery written by Amber Benson was recently shown again on Channel 5.  The good news for fans who missed it on Friday, the 29th of March or who want to watch it again, it has been added to the My 5 streaming service for a limited time only.

In 2023, Amber added to her growing body of work as a writer for television when she wrote the script for Family History Mysteries: Buried Past which is based on a series of novels by Brynn Bonner.  The movie had its US premiere on the 8th of January that year which as many fans will know is Amber's birthday. It was shown in the US on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. Here it’s been shown under the alternative title Finding Dad: A Family History Mystery.

When it was shown this time, it was still advertised under the name Finding Dad: A Family History Mystery. However, when aired on Channel 5 and My 5 this time the US title of Family History Mysteries: Buried Past appears. I mention this slightly strange fact in case it causes confusion for anyone who wants to watch it. Remember to search for it under the name Finding Dad.

The story centres on Sophie McClaren, played by Janel Parrish, who is a genealogist. She brings families together using her expertise and ability to dig into the past to find answers. Sophie's skills and knowledge shall be tested like never before when she discovers her close friend Jonathan is in need of a bone marrow transplant. Help is on hand from Jonathan's twin brother Jackson who was close to Sophie at one time. Together Sophie and Jackson search for the twins’ birth father in a bid to save Jonathan. As Sophie and Jackson work together it gives her the push to finally look into her own past.

I have posted the US trailer below. Please note it does contain spoilers.
Finding Dad: A Family History Mystery will be available from May 5 until the 28th of May 2024. This is a free streaming service and can be accessed via Channel 5.com or the My 5 App and is currently only available to viewers inside the United Kingdom.

Amber has written for Hallmark on three previous occasions including Murder in Mind & Death By Design, two movies in the popular Morning Show Mysteries series. They were based on a series of novels by Al Roker and Dick Lochte. Amber also wrote the festive romantic movie A Family Christmas Gift, this was an original story written by Amber and she also co-wrote the teleplay.

It's exciting that Amber’s latest TV mystery is available on demand once again in the UK. Watch it while you can!

Amber’s Guest Starring Role in Cold Case Available on Discovery+ for a Limited Time Only

Here is some exciting news for Amber fans in the UK as Amber’s guest starring role in US crime drama series Cold Case is currently available on streaming service Discovery+.

Quest Red is a TV channel available on a number of platforms here in the UK. It has recently been re-running classic crime drama series Cold Case in which homicide detective Lily Rush played by Kathryn Morris delves into Philadelphia Police Department’s cold cases in the hope of bringing killers to justice.

In 2003 Amber guest starred as Julia Hoffman in “Volunteers" Episode 16 of Season 1. In this episode the discovery of human remains leads Lily to reopen an unsolved missing person’s case from 1969.

Those of you who follow the website’s dedicated X (the social media site formally known as Twitter) and Facebook feeds may have seen that I posted about “Volunteers" being shown yesterday on Quest Red and Quest Red+1.

I had planned on publishing a full post in the latest news section about this ahead of time. Unfortunately, due to an error on my part I thought Volunteers the episode in which Amber appears wasn't due to be shown for at least a few more days. I apologise for the error as I know sadly there aren't many opportunities to see Amber’s television roles here in the UK. which is why I was so disappointed to make the mistake.

Amber fans are a supportive community and fellow fan Carole was one of a number of fans including Laragh and Samantha to remind me that Volunteers is still available to watch on the Discovery + streaming platform here in the UK as Quest Red is part of the Discovery Warner Brothers Group.

Discovery+ streaming platform is available on desktop computer, smart phones, games consoles, tablets and more via the Discovery+ app, “Volunteers” is available for a limited time only. I have checked both the Discovery+ app and the desktop version as well and neither of them give a date when the episode will expire from the platform.

I have looked at the episodes that are available and there are still five to watch as of the date of this post. At the moment Quest Red are showing one episode every weekday so I estimate that as it's the weekend Volunteers should be available until Thursday the 1st of February 2024. This is an estimate based on the information I have at the time of writing this post. Discovery/Quest Red may decide to stream more or less episodes which could affect how long the episode is available. As I said there is no date given for when it will expire from Discovery+ platform.

For more information on Discovery+ visit their website at the link below for more information.

https://www.discoveryplus.com/gb

I don't know if Discovery+ is available outside of the UK and if it is the content may differ depending upon the country you are based in.

If there are any fellow fans from outside of the UK who know more about this then why not leave a comment under this post, contact me on social media or our email address, the links are in the website header above.

I’m pleased fans in the UK will have another chance to see one of Amber’s guest starring television roles.

Amber Benson was the Special Guest on a Recent Episode of The Jordan, Jesse, Go Podcast.

Picture
Amber was the special guest on the most recent episode of The Jordan, Jesse, Go Podcast which was released in the run-up to Christmas.

Amber joins hosts Jordan Norris and Jesse Thorn to talk about Slayers: A Buffyverse Story which was co-written, co-directed and stars Amber Benson. Amber herself is very modest and she plays down her starring role, instead highlighting the contribution of others.

Trust me when I say that Amber is definitely a star, she gives an incredible performance as Tara Maclay. If there are some fans out there who haven't listen to Slayers: A Buffyverse and are worried that Tara won't have a big role to play. Then let me put your mind at ease, she is a big part of the story and as you would expect Amber does it with great care and sounds terrific.

Amber is amazing, I urge you to listen. I went slightly off the topic of the podcast but I felt it was important to highlight Amber’s incredible contribution both in creating and as a cast member.

Jesse, Jordan and Amber also talk about Christmas and their plans. They discuss Christmas movies, Amber has starred in one and has experience of writing a festive film for Hallmark. Amber enjoys true crime stories and she has written several movies based on real life events for The Lifetime Network. Amber has written a number of novels and short stories along with co-writing and creating the Ghosts of Albion online series and novels. Jordan, Jesse and Amber discuss her novel: The Witches of Echo Park. Penguins, otters and ice cream cake are just some of the other topics up for discussion in this unique podcast.

My friend and fellow Amber fan Laragh gave me a heads up about this podcast. She also sent me a post from Reddit in which co-host Jordan Morris describes Amber as “a hilarious delight” and describes it as “not so much an interview, just kind of a goofy chat around.” The conversation does take plenty of twists and turns in this funny and unusual chat. This is definitely not your typical interview but that’s what makes it so enjoyable.

I have posted the link below so you can so you can listen and there is also more information on the podcast and other options for downloading and playing it on your devices.

Please Note: The podcast does contain some strong language and discussion of mature themes.

This is a really enjoyable listen that made me laugh and for Amber fans it's a great way to spend a relaxing hour. There will be some more updates coming to the site in 2024 but for now I'd like to wish everyone A Happy New Year.

A Family Christmas Gift - Written By Amber Benson To Be Shown on UK TV Next Week

Picture
Exciting news for fans in the UK. A Family Christmas Gift written by Amber will be shown on UK TV four times next week. This fun festive movie will be shown on Christmas 24 and sister channel Christmas 24+.

Amber wrote the original story for A Family Christmas Gift and she also co-wrote the teleplay with Alex Wright. The movie was written for the Hallmark Network in the USA.

A Family Christmas Gift centres on Amber, a busy New York-based executive played by Holly Robinson Pete. She is persuaded by her Aunt Dora (Patti Labelle) to join her for Christmas in Colorado and help plan the annual Christmas concert.

Holly Robinson Pete's name may be familiar to Amber fans as she plays the role of Billie Blessings in Morning Show Mysteries. Amber wrote the script/teleplay for A Murder In Mind and Death By Design two movies in the popular series in 2019.

A Family Christmas Gift will be shown at:
11pm on Monday the 27th of November
10am on Tuesday the 28th of November on (Christmas 24+)
5pm on Wednesday the 29th of November (and again at 8pm on Christmas 24+)

Unfortunately, Christmas 24 doesn't seem to have a reliable online presence. I have Sky so I can confirm Christmas 24 is on Sky Channel 325 and Christmas 24+ is on 326.

As far as I'm currently aware, Christmas 24 and Christmas 24+ are still available on the Virgin Media and BT TV Platforms. I don't have up-to-date channel numbers for these platforms. I would advise people to check their onscreen TV Guides for details.

I have embedded a trailer and an extended a sneak peek clip of A Family Christmas Gift. There are some spoilers so if you would rather wait-and-see what Amber has in store for us then I'd avoid it for now. I just wanted to place it here in case there are some fans who would like to see more.
This is a fun family film and a real treat for Amber fans I am excited that fans in the UK will get another chance to see it. A big thank you to my friend and fellow Amber fan Samantha for giving me a heads up about these showings.

Joe

Amber Has Co-Written, Co-Directed and Will Star in a Brand-New Audio Drama Slayers: A Buffyverse Story

9/30/2023

Here is some hugely exciting news for fans especially if like me you are a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Tara Maclay who was played by Amber. On Wednesday the 13th of September it was announced that Amber has co-written, co-directed and will star in a brand-new immersive audio drama called Slayers: A Buffyverse Story. Yes that's right, not only is The Buffyverse returning, Amber will once again play Tara Maclay for the first time in more than twenty years.

Slayers: A Buffyverse Story is an Audible Original and will be exclusively available on the Audible platform and fans can pre-order it via both the UK and US versions of the website and app.

The news was revealed exclusively by Entertainment Weekly in an article written by Sydney Bucksbaum, who confirmed that this new original story had been co-written by Amber Benson and her long-time friend and writing partner Christopher Golden. Amber has also co-directed the drama along with KC Wayland, as well as returning to the role of Tara Maclay who she played wonderfully in the TV series.

Amber is one of several friends and former co-stars who are returning to their original roles for this new chapter in the Buffyverse. More on that in a moment, first here's what we know about the story so far as revealed in
Sydney Bucksbaum's article click here to read it.

As it begins Spike (James Masters) has gone deep undercover in Los Angeles as he attempts to convince the forces of darkness that he is back to his evil ways. That is until his cover is compromised by a young slayer, Indira Nunnally (Laya DeLeon Hayes), now Spike must track down a watcher to guide her. That's when their paths cross with a veteran slayer from a parallel reality, a world where Buffy Summers never existed, and the one and only slayer is Cordelia Chase (Charisma Carpenter). Cordelia is searching for help to defeat a ‘big bad’ that is terrorising her world, none other than Spike's former love interest, Drusilla (Juliet Landau)

That's all we know about the plot of the series to date, however here is the cast list so far and fans will see plenty of names they will recognise:

Amber Benson as Tara Maclay
Charisma Carpenter as Cordelia Chase
Emma Caulfield Ford as Anya Jenkins & Anyanka
James Charles Leary as Clement "Clem"
Laya DeLeon Hayes as Indira Nunnally
Anthony Head as Rupert Giles
Juliet Landau as Drusilla "Dru"
James Masters as Spike
Danny Strong as Jonathan Levinson

Laya is a newcomer to The Buffyverse, some of you may recognise her name from several projects including playing Delilah Fulton on CBS drama, The Equaliser.

As well as starring in Buffy the Vampire Slayer Amber is no stranger to writing for the Buffyverse. In 2001 she teamed up with Christopher Golden to write a two-part comic book titled, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Willow and Tara: "Wilderness” and “Wannablessedbe. Later re-released as a graphic novel in 2003 called Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Willow & Tara.

Amber also wrote “Innocent,” a short story set at the height of the French Revolution about Claudine who was The Slayer. This was released in 2011 as part of a collection of short stories called Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Tales.

Christopher Golden has also written within The Buffyverse, having written several Buffy the Vampire Slayer tie-in novels both during and after the show's time on the air. He also co-wrote the script for Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds videogame.

The pair have worked together on a number of other projects, including co-creating and writing Ghosts of Albion, an animated Internet series for the BBC and the subsequent novella and novels. For more information on their writing projects click on this link to The Written Word Section of the website.

In an informal Q&A on his official X (the social media platform formerly known as Twitter) Christopher revealed that Slayers: A Buffyverse Story is eight hours long and will be told over  nine episodes. He did say that as far as he was aware all episodes would be available on the release day of October the 12th, although he couldn't confirm this.

What's even more exciting is that fans don't have long to wait as Slayers: A Buffyverse Story will be released on 12th October both here in the UK via Audible.co.uk and in the USA via Audible.com Fans can pre-order, Audible members can use a credit (plus a fee) to pre-order or it is available to buy for a one-off fee for non-members. Click the appropriate hyperlink to pre-order and find out more. The charge I paid was just over £5 plus 1 Audible Credit. I don’t know if this charge is the same for everyone or changes depending on your Audible package. If anyone in the UK or USA has any more information please get in touch and let me know.

As both a fan of Amber and Buffy I'm thrilled that she has been given this fantastic opportunity to add to her impressive body of work as a writer. I’m also delighted that she is returning to star in Slayers: A Buffyverse Story. Amber has largely retired from acting to focus on writing but I'm so excited that she is returning to play Tara once again. Tara's controversial exit from Buffy The Vampire Slayer was upsetting for many fans, myself included. The fact that Amber will once again step into the role of Tara means so much to me.

I apologise for the length of time it has taking me to post this update, I have been particularly busy with work and other commitments. I was also lucky enough meet Amber again last weekend at Cross Roads 7 Convention in Birmingham, UK. I will of course post more news on this exciting update as soon as I possibly can following its release. Thank you all for your patience.

Joe
