Amber Shares The Latest News On The Shevenge

A few days ago I posted a linked to the trailer for Shevenge a brand-new short film directed by Amber.

Amber recently wrote a post on her official Tumblr page and then wrote this to share the latest news about Shevenge including two very exciting upcoming screenings.

Rather than me tell you about it this time I thought I'd let Amber tell you in own words.

Amber Is Supporting An Online Charity Auction By Doodling

One of the things I try to do is write a title for my updates on the latest news section the grabs people's attention and interest. I hope I've succeeded here because it's in aid of a very worthy cause.

This week online auction website eBay are hosting a charity auction in aid of Neurofibromatosis Network and Amber is one of a number of celebrities who are supporting it by auctioning their doodles intrigued? Keep reading I will explain all but first I thought I'd give you some information about Neurofibromatosis Network.

Neurofibromatosis Network is a charity based in the USA with the aim of supporting people who have Neurofibromatosis and their families as just one of its many aims. I confess I hadn't heard the of Neurofibromatosis before so rather then try to describe it the following is from the Neurofibromatosis Network website:

“Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a genetic disorder of the nervous system which causes tumors to form on the nerves anywhere in the body at any time. This progressive disorder affects all races, all ethnic groups and both sexes equally.”

Neurofibromatosis Network has come up with an unusual way of raising funds by asking a number of celebrities to draw and then auction their own one-of-a-kind hand drawn doodles.

Amber has supported a number of good causes down the years and has drawn two doodles which are included in the auction alongside contributions from:

X-Files creator Chris Carter, Gillian Anderson, country music star Brad Paisley, Martin Sheen, Patrick Stewart, William Shatner and Amber's former Buffy co-star Seth Green. These are just some of the people involved sorry I didn't have space to list every single person but I am going to include a link to all of the auction lots of the end of this post.

The two separate auction lots from Amber end at slightly different times but both have more than 6 days left to run.

Amber To Teach A Sci-Fi And Urban Fantasy Writing Workshop In LA This May

Amber is a woman of many talents actor, director, producer, writer and more recently a teacher. In 2014 Amber began teaching a number of writing courses with Writing Pad who are based in Los Angeles. Amber and Writing Pad went on to offer an online version of all of these courses so people across the United States and beyond could take part.

On Tuesday Writing Pad released some exciting news for people living in the Los Angeles area with the news that Amber will be teaching a brand-new one day course held in LA this May.

Amber’s course is titled Zombies, Witches, And Killer Robots: Science Fiction And Urban Fantasy. Amber will teach you how to create three-dimensional characters and detail that will make your story standout and by the end of the class you will have penned the first draft of your own story.

This one-day course will take place on Wednesday, 13 May 2015 between 7:30 -10:30 PM at Writing Pad West 2452 Overland Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90064.

This class promises to be a wonderful chance to learn about the craft of writing from an experienced writer and an excellent teacher. Having been lucky enough to attend an online version of this class in the past I can tell you that not only will you receive some expert help you will have a very enjoyable evening too. Writing Pad is an excellent organisation and I recommend them to anyone who is interested in writing.

Shevenge Official Trailer Released

The first official trailer of Shevenge a brand-new short film directed by Amber Benson has now been released following a successful crowdfunding campaign.

If you are hearing the name Shevenge for the first time don't worry I'll get you up to speed. In 2014 Amber announced that she was to direct a brand-new short film titled Shevenge.

The film centers on three friends Sam (Emme Rylan), Charley (Jessica Courtemanche) and Taylor (Megan Lee Joy) who are having a slumber party and they begin plotting revenge on their ex-boyfriends. We then join them on a journey into the darkest part of their imagination as they take Shevenge on each one of them. This dark comedy pays homage to favourite film genres including horror, fantasy and action.

Shevenge was co created by Jessica Courtemanche and Megan Lee Joy and with Amber directing this original comedy it promises to be one not to miss. The Shevenge team launched a campaign on popular crowdfunding site Indiegogo.com with the aim of raising $10,000 to complete postproduction to a high standard.

In return for supporting the campaign there were a range of perks on offer including posters, a DVD of the completed film, signed cast photos and much more. When the campaign was brought to a close on 29 January 2015 it smashed through its initial target of raising $15,195 meaning postproduction could be completed.

The Shevenge team plan to enter the film in a number of film festivals as well as organising other screenings across the US in the coming months. The best way to the keep up-to-date with upcoming screenings is to visit the official website Shevenge.com.

In the director’s statement on the official website Amber explains what attracted her to the project:

“The reasons I was drawn to direct Shevenge are manifold. I thought the script was well written and super funny, I loved that the majority of the people involved in the film were women––and, lastly, having primarily directed comedies, I was itching to try my hand at an action/horror-themed project.

I am a fan of horror films and action movies––but it drives me up the wall that so few female directors have been able to really crack those genres. Directing Shevenge was like throwing the gauntlet down and forcing myself to take a risk. To try something I’d never done before and, succeed or fail, to challenge myself to grow as a woman and as a filmmaker”.
