Here is some exciting news for fans living in the UK. ‘Finding Dad: A Family History Mystery’, written by Amber Benson, is being shown on UK TV again on Friday the 29th of March.

In January 2023, Amber added to her growing body of work as a writer for television when she wrote the script for ‘Family History Mysteries: Buried Past’ which is based on a series of novels by Brynn Bonner. ‘Family History Mysteries: Buried Past’ had its US premiere on the 8th of January which as many fans will know is Amber's birthday. It was shown in the US on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.

It's now set to be shown again in the UK on Friday but is being advertised in listings under its UK title of ‘Finding Dad: A Family History Mystery’.

The story centres on Sophie McClaren (played by Janel Parrish) who is a genealogist. She brings families together using her expertise and ability to dig into the past to find answers. Sophie's skills and knowledge shall be tested like never before when she discovers her close friend Jonathan needs a bone marrow transplant. Help is on hand from Jonathan's twin brother Jackson who also happens to be Sophie's ex. Together Sophie and Jackson search for the twins' birth father in a bid to save Jonathan. As Sophie and Jackson work together it gives her the push to finally look into her own past.

It will be shown on Channel 5 in the UK on Friday (29th of March) in the afternoon at 2:15 PM it will also be shown an hour later on Channel 5+1 at 3:15 PM. I don't yet know if it will be available via Channel 5’s streaming platform My 5. The last time Channel 5 showed Finding Dad, they did but I can't guarantee it will be the same this time. I will check and if it is available I will post a further update to let you all know.

I have posted the US trailer below please note it does contain spoilers

Amber has written for Hallmark on three previous occasions including ‘Murder in Mind’ & ‘Death By Design’, two movies in the popular ‘Morning Show Mysteries’ series. They were based on a series of novels by Al Roker and Dick Lochte. Amber also wrote the festive romantic movie ‘A Family Christmas Gift’ – this was an original story written by Amber and she also co-wrote the teleplay.

It's so exciting to see Amber’s latest TV mystery being shown again in the UK and I will definitely be watching!

Hello everyone,

As regular visitors to the site will know this section is usually reserved for the latest Amber news. However, as with my previous post, I’m catching up on some great content from late last year.

Why you ask? Well, when ‘Slayers: A Buffyverse Story’ was released in October 2023 (for more information visit our brand-new dedicated Slayer page – just click on the hyperlink) Amber did a number of interviews about this exciting project and due to work commitments and my personal circumstances at the time, I was having a hard time keeping up with all the excellent content.

One of the reasons I built this site was to be a resource for fellow fans. A place to find out more and provide links to the content that is still available for you to access and enjoy. I recently took a holiday from work, so I decided it was time to catch up! Now on to the post itself:

In December 2023 Amber was the guest on the ‘Son of a Binge’ podcast hosted by Reshma Gopaldas. Each month she invites guests to talk about their latest project as well as what shows they are currently bingeing.

Reshma begins by asking Amber how ‘Slayers: A Buffyverse Story’ came about and what it was like to be back in the world of the Buffyverse.

Amber also gives us the lowdown on what she likes best about her fellow cast members; working in the multi-verse and what the situation is for some of the characters when we first meet them, as well as the challenges and practicalities of recording under COVID-19 restrictions.

The cast is full of returning Buffy stars, but we are also introduced to a new Slayer, Indira Nunnally played by Laya DeLeon Hays. Amber talks about the role Laya plays and how she is key to the story.

Tara Maclay, the character Amber played in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series, was killed off in controversial circumstances in 2002. Amber discusses what it was like returning to play a character that both she and the audience love so much. As part of the Slayers story takes place in an alternative reality, Amber discusses the situation this version of Tara finds herself in. Also, why it was so important to Amber to keep all of Tara’s core values from the TV version – specifically her goodness, kindness, and empathy still being present.

Reshma also invites Amber to play a game of Stake, Marry, Kill. Just a heads-up: stake doesn't mean what it usually does. These are just some of the things they discuss in this entertaining podcast.

To listen to ‘Son of a Binge’, click the link below. Please note the conversation/interview contains discussion of mature themes discretion is advised for younger listeners.

It's also important to note that this podcast was recorded during the strike held by the members of SAG-AFTRA and The Writer’s Guild of America which meant that Amber couldn't directly reference the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV show at the time.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable listen and it's a must for Amber fans. Sorry about the delay.

Joe

An Interview with Amber Benson as part of an episode of ‘The Comic News Insider Podcast’

Hello everyone,

As regular visitors to the site will know this section is usually reserved for the latest Amber news. I've taken a few days holiday and I decided it was time to go back and look at a couple of things that I didn't get the opportunity to post about when they were first released.

In October 2023, Amber made an appearance on the ‘Comic News Insider Podcast’. This episode is not a typical episode with a one-on-one interview situation. It was recorded at one of the press events as part of New York Comic Con 2023 where ‘Slayers: A Buffyverse Story’ was one of the featured panels.

The podcast features interviews with Amber Benson, Christopher Golden, Charisma Carpenter, Emma Caulfield Ford, Juliet Landau, Laya DeLeon Hayes, James Marsters, and James C. Leary.

Amber and Christopher talk about how ‘Slayers: A Buffyverse Story’ came about, the process of recording the series and why creating an authentic experience for fans was so important to them.

Amber talks about her emotions at having Tara alive again and making sure that even though this version of Tara does some dark things, her goodness, kindness, and empathy are all still there. She highlights why keeping the integrity of the character of Tara was so important as she means so much to fans. Amber also discusses working with Juliet and there are some laughs along the way too.

Charisma discusses a new role for Cordelia while Emma talks about the process of voicing three different characters. Juliet talks about Drusilla as a character and how she drives a lot of the action and working with Buffyverse actors that she didn't get the chance to work with on screen.

Laya discusses being the newcomer into this world and how welcome she was made to feel by the cast and crew. She touches on working with Amber and how she was able to have conversations with her as part of the process while recording.

James Marsters and James Leary talk about stepping back into their roles and the multiverse nature of this new world that Amber and Christopher have created.

Before I go any further, I just want to let people know there is a lot of interference on the audio recording itself and at times it can be very hard to hear certain parts. Comic News Insider explained to fans about this both on their website and as a disclaimer at the start of the recording itself.

Years ago, I studied media so I know first-hand that sometimes technical problems can arise. I just wanted to make people who want to listen are aware. I would recommend listening through headphones rather than trying to play via speakers.

The ‘Comic News Insider Podcast’ is available to listen to from the link below to hear that recording itself open the page and click on the blue hyperlink below the photo.

Despite the time that has passed and the issue with the recording, I wanted to post it here as I’m trying to create a full resource of all things relating to ‘Slayers: A Buffyverse Story’.

If you haven't already done so, please check out this link to a petition to Save Slayers: A Buffyverse Story. (click the hyperlink).
The petition was set up by Beth Ricketson. I don't know Beth personally but as a fan of both Amber and Buffy the Vampire Slayer I wanted to let fans know about the petition. When I listened to the podcast and the excitement of all of the cast and journalists covering this event I didn't understand Disney's decision to cancel the show.

Despite the sound problems, this is definitely worth a listen for Amber fans.

Joe

Amber Benson Is Set To Narrate The Audiobook Version Of Tidal Creatures Available For Pre-Order Now

Here is some exciting news for fans: Amber is set to narrate the audiobook version of Tidal Creatures. This is the third book in the Alchemical Journeys series which is written by Amber's friend and fellow author, Seanan McGuire.

Amber has previously narrated the first two books in the series, ‘Middlegame’ and ‘Seasonal Fears’ and she is once again lending her acting talent and experience as a narrator to lead listeners back into Seanan’s dark fantasy world. A world filled with alchemy and shadowy organisations and in this latest instalment, even the gods themselves are under threat.

Below is the publisher’s summary taken from Audible.co.uk — no copyright infringement is intended; this information is being offered for informational purposes only.

“Every night, a Moon shines down on the Impossible City…

New York Times bestselling author Seanan McGuire takes us back to the world of the award-winning Alchemical Journeys series in this action-packed follow-up to Middlegame and Seasonal Fears.

All across the world, people look up at the moon and dream of gods. Gods of knowledge and wisdom, gods of tides and longevity. Over time, some of these moon gods incarnated into the human world alongside the other manifest natural concepts. Their job is to cross the sky above the Impossible City—the heart of all creation—to keep it connected to reality.

 And someone is killing them.

There are so many of them that it's easy for a few disappearances to slip through the cracks. But they aren't limitless.

In the name of the moon, the lunar divinities must uncover the roots of the plot and thwart the true goal of those behind these attacks—control of the Impossible City itself.”

Tidal Creatures will be released later this year on the 6th of April 2024 but it is available for pre-order here in the UK (click here) in the USA (click here) Canada (click here) and Australia (click here).

Audible also offers a range of packages where in return for a regular monthly fee a user is entitled to download Tidal Creatures as well as access to a vast library of audiobooks also available on the site. The number of books you can download in the month will depend upon your individual package, for full details see the respective Audible websites.

Audible also offers non-members the opportunity to purchase Tidal Creatures and any other of its audiobooks or other audio productions for a one-off fee. This fee will vary depending on the title. See individual Audible websites for details.

There is no sample of the audiobook to listen to at the moment. In my experience, Audible usually does not make it available until the audiobook release date. When and if this changes or I get any more information about it I will of course post it here as soon as I can.

I'm thrilled that Amber will be narrating the next exciting instalment of this series and can't wait to listen.

Joe

The Trailer For ‘I Saw The TV Glow’ Starring Amber Benson Has Been Released

In 2022 Amber revealed she had joined the cast of ‘I Saw The TV Glow’. This is the first time Amber has appeared in an on-screen role since she starred as Professor Samantha Rand in 2019's The Nightmare Gallery.

As many fans will know in recent years Amber has transitioned from acting to writing, including the Calliope-Reaper Jones series and the Echo Park Coven Series of novels. Following the completion of these successful series Amber has since written a number of both fiction and non-fiction film projects for television.

I was lucky enough to meet Amber again at a Convention in the UK in 2022. During a Q&A session with fans, I asked Amber if she could share any more about ‘I Saw The TV Glow’. She said, "If you like genre shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Supernatural you will love this film." A big thank you to Amber for being kind enough to answer my question!

‘I Saw The TV Glow’ centres on Owen (Justice Smith) and Maddy (Brigette Lundy-Paine); two teenagers trying to navigate their way through life and high school. Owen and Maddie bond over a shared interest in a supernatural TV show. When the TV show is cancelled Owen’s reality begins to blur with the fictional world the show is set in.

‘I Saw The TV Glow’ had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and a few days ago the official trailer for the film was released.

I have embedded the trailer below.
It’s an intriguing watch and I can see why the project was interesting enough to tempt Amber back into an on-screen role. Sadly, Amber doesn't appear in this particular trailer but if and when new versions are released or we get any official photos of her in the film I will share them here. According to IMDb.com Amber will be playing the role of “Johnny Link's Mom.”

‘I Saw The TV Glow’ will be released on the 3rd of May 2024 in the USA. Unfortunately, there is no word yet on when it will be released in the UK. As soon as I have news on any type of UK release I will post it here as soon as I can.

A big thank you to Laragh, Samantha, Katie, and Carole for the link to this exciting trailer. Hopefully, UK fans will get a chance to watch ‘I Saw The TV Glow’. I'm really looking forward to seeing Amber back on screen in this exciting new film.
