Among the Ghosts
In 2010, Amber released her first children’s book Among the Ghosts. The book is set within the same universe as The Calliope-Reaper Jones Series. It follows Noleen, or Noh for short, a long time friend of Calliope.
The story begins when a 13 year old Noh moves to her new boarding school the New New Bridge Academy. After her summer holiday plans fall through she travels to school early to stay with her aunt who is a teacher there. Noh’s early arrival gives her the perfect opportunity to explore her new home. It’s not long before curiosity leads her to investigate the west wing which has been disused for many years and that when the fun begins!
Amber brings the same sense of fun from the Reaper-Jones novels to produce an exciting and fun adventure for children.
At this point if you’re asking is he just using quotes from her publishers the Answer is NO. I’ve read the book myself. I was 27 at the time, and no I’m not the target audience, but it struck me if there had been more books like this when I was a kid I would have certainly read more!
The book is illustrated by the very talented Sina Grace, who does a wonderful job of adding to a rich story, giving the reader the chance see Noh and her friends.
Among the Ghosts is published by Aladdin a branch of Simon & Schuster. It is still available in its original form of a hardback bound book. A paper back edition has now also been released.
Amber had originally intended Calliope Reaper-Jones books to be trilogy however following their huge success Penguin were keen for her add to the series. Lucky for fans Calliope's adventures they were able to agree a deal for a further 2 novels the Reaper-Jones universe expanded again with a short story too.
