Amber Creates Another Halloween Trail in Los Angeles with FORT LA

10/4/2023

It's only the start of October but I know many people's thoughts will already be turning towards Halloween. If you live in and around the LA area Amber's latest project could be just what you're looking for to kickstart your spooky celebrations.

For a fourth year Amber has created a brand-new trail of five unique houses in Los Angeles each with a spooky past or connection to witches. Amber's brand-new trail is called Witch Houses 4: Towers and Turrets.

This trail was curated in association with Friends of Residential Treasures: LA (FORT) "Bringing people together by celebrating the history and influence of residential architecture."

Amber based her Echo Park Coven trilogy of novels in Los Angeles and she has also written a number of other novels and short stories with witches or ghosts and other spooky phenomenon. So, she's accustomed to researching myths and legends and the history behind some character filled locations. I'm delighted that she has been given the opportunity to once again use all those skills to create a unique trail that people will really enjoy.

Here's how trailblazer Amber describes Witch Houses 4: Towers and Turrets in the official guide:

"Ode to FORT: LA’s 2023 Halloween Trail
This Trail walks in beauty, like the night
Wait, that line belongs to Lord Byron, oh right!
Let’s start again.
FORT’s Halloween Trail this year is a doozy
Full of architectural gems that’ll make you all woozy
If you embark without fail on this Halloween Trail
You’ll find a Long Goodbye
A gibbon livin’ its best life
A red sandstone prison
Castles and turrets and a hidden bar
Plus a prize for the first person who
discovers the secret of the trail
(Hint: it’s all in the verse)
Good luck and Godspeed
And remember:
HAVE A HAPPY HALLOWEEN!"

For more information about this fascinating trail visit fortla.org and enter your email address. This will allow you to download a PDF which will give you more information about all five locations on the trail and the rules that are to be followed for anyone who wants to experience it for themselves.

As I said last year, I love history and if I had the opportunity I absolutely would be following in Amber's footsteps and experiencing this latest witch themed trail for myself. I definitely encourage anyone who can to check it out.

Update on 11th of October - A few days ago Amber posted a video on her official Instagram account where you can view some of her trail click here.

A big thank you to friend and fellow Amber fan Laragh for the heads up about this exciting new trail.

Amber Has Co-Written, Co-Directed and Will Star in a Brand-New Audio Drama Slayers: A Buffyverse Story

9/30/2023

Here is some hugely exciting news for fans especially if like me you are a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Tara Maclay who was played by Amber. On Wednesday the 13th of September it was announced that Amber has co-written, co-directed and will star in a brand-new immersive audio drama called Slayers: A Buffyverse Story. Yes that's right, not only is The Buffyverse returning, Amber will once again play Tara Maclay for the first time in more than twenty years.

Slayers: A Buffyverse Story is an Audible Original and will be exclusively available on the Audible platform and fans can pre-order it via both the UK and US versions of the website and app.

The news was revealed exclusively by Entertainment Weekly in an article written by Sydney Bucksbaum, who confirmed that this new original story had been co-written by Amber Benson and her long-time friend and writing partner Christopher Golden. Amber has also co-directed the drama along with KC Wayland, as well as returning to the role of Tara Maclay who she played wonderfully in the TV series.

Amber is one of several friends and former co-stars who are returning to their original roles for this new chapter in the Buffyverse. More on that in a moment, first here's what we know about the story so far as revealed in Sydney Bucksbaum's article click here to read it.

As it begins Spike (James Masters) has gone deep undercover in Los Angeles as he attempts to convince the forces of darkness that he is back to his evil ways. That is until his cover is compromised by a young slayer, Indira Nunnally (Laya DeLeon Hayes), now Spike must track down a watcher to guide her. That's when their paths cross with a veteran slayer from a parallel reality, a world where Buffy Summers never existed, and the one and only slayer is Cordelia Chase (Charisma Carpenter). Cordelia is searching for help to defeat a ‘big bad’ that is terrorising her world, none other than Spike's former love interest, Drusilla (Juliet Landau)

That's all we know about the plot of the series to date, however here is the cast list so far and fans will see plenty of names they will recognise:

Amber Benson as Tara Maclay
Charisma Carpenter as Cordelia Chase
Emma Caulfield Ford as Anya Jenkins & Anyanka
James Charles Leary as Clement "Clem"
Laya DeLeon Hayes as Indira Nunnally
Anthony Head as Rupert Giles
Juliet Landau as Drusilla "Dru"
James Masters as Spike
Danny Strong as Jonathan Levinson

Laya is a newcomer to The Buffyverse, some of you may recognise her name from several projects including playing Delilah Fulton on CBS drama, The Equaliser.

As well as starring in Buffy the Vampire Slayer Amber is no stranger to writing for the Buffyverse. In 2001 she teamed up with Christopher Golden to write a two-part comic book titled, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Willow and Tara: "Wilderness” and “Wannablessedbe. Later re-released as a graphic novel in 2003 called Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Willow & Tara.

Amber also wrote “Innocent,” a short story set at the height of the French Revolution about Claudine who was The Slayer. This was released in 2011 as part of a collection of short stories called Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Tales.

Christopher Golden has also written within The Buffyverse, having written several Buffy the Vampire Slayer tie-in novels both during and after the show's time on the air. He also co-wrote the script for Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds videogame.

The pair have worked together on a number of other projects, including co-creating and writing Ghosts of Albion, an animated Internet series for the BBC and the subsequent novella and novels. For more information on their writing projects click on this link to The Written Word Section of the website.

In an informal Q&A on his official X (the social media platform formerly known as Twitter) Christopher revealed that Slayers: A Buffyverse Story is eight hours long and will be told over nine episodes. He did say that as far as he was aware all episodes would be available on the release day of October the 12th, although he couldn't confirm this.

What's even more exciting is that fans don't have long to wait as Slayers: A Buffyverse Story will be released on 12th October both here in the UK via Audible.co.uk and in the USA via Audible.com Fans can pre-order, Audible members can use a credit (plus a fee) to pre-order or it is available to buy for a one-off fee for non-members. Click the appropriate hyperlink to pre-order and find out more. The charge I paid was just over £5 plus 1 Audible Credit. I don’t know if this charge is the same for everyone or changes depending on your Audible package. If anyone in the UK or USA has any more information please get in touch and let me know.

As both a fan of Amber and Buffy I'm thrilled that she has been given this fantastic opportunity to add to her impressive body of work as a writer. I’m also delighted that she is returning to star in Slayers: A Buffyverse Story. Amber has largely retired from acting to focus on writing but I'm so excited that she is returning to play Tara once again. Tara's controversial exit from Buffy The Vampire Slayer was upsetting for many fans, myself included. The fact that Amber will once again step into the role of Tara means so much to me.

I apologise for the length of time it has taking me to post this update, I have been particularly busy with work and other commitments. I was also lucky enough meet Amber again last weekend at Cross Roads 7 Convention in Birmingham, UK. I will of course post more news on this exciting update as soon as I possibly can following its release. Thank you all for your patience.

Drunk, Driving And 17 Written By Amber Benson To Premiere In The USA 15 April On Lifetime

4/2/2023

It's been reported on multiple entertainment websites including mortystv.com and Shadow And Act.com that Amber Benson has written a brand-new movie for the Lifetime network. Drunk, Driving And 17 is inspired by actual stories and looks at the consequences of underage drinking. The movie tells the story of Kim (Savannah Lee Smith) a popular high school senior with the world at her feet, bound for an Ivy League University until she makes a fateful decision.

Kim is drinking with friends at a house party, when she sees her boyfriend flirting with someone else, upset she grabs her car keys and drives off. Later she crashes into a fellow student with devastating consequences both for him and Kim. Kim's world falls apart as both she and her parents who supervised the party come under the scrutiny of both the authorities and their friends and neighbours.

After years of working as a successful novelist on her Calliope Reaper-Jones series, The Echo Park Coven Trilogy and co-authoring The Ghosts of Albion series with Christopher Golden, Amber is developing a growing body of work as a writer for television.

Drunk, Driving And 17 is the fourth movie Amber has written for The Lifetime Network following on from 2017's Oscar Pistorius: Blade Runner Killer and 2018’s Terror in The Woods. Then in 2020 Amber wrote A Murder To Remember, all three of these movies dealing with tragic real-life murder cases.

Amber has also written fiction for the small screen including a Murder In Mind and Death By Design both part of the popular Morning Show Mysteries series. Earlier this year Amber wrote a brand-new mystery for Hallmark entitled Family History Mysteries: Buried Past. This movie premiered in the USA on 8th of January, Amber’s birthday.

According to reports Drunk, Driving And 17 will have its USA premiere on Saturday, 15th of April at 8/7C in the USA. For more information and to get an exclusive look at the trailer click on the link below to the shadow and act website and scroll down the page. The trailer does contain some spoilers for the movie itself.

There is no word on when or if Drunk, Driving And 17 will premiere in the UK. As soon as I have any more information on this and on the movie in general I will post it here as soon as possible.

I would like to congratulate Amber, I'm thrilled that she has had another opportunity to write the script for another television movie and as I said above add to her already impressive list of credits. A big thank you to friend and fellow Amber fan Laragh for the heads up on this news.

Family History Mysteries: Buried Past Written By Amber Benson USA Premiere On The 8th of January

1/5/2023

On the 30th of November 2022 entertainment website Deadline.com broke the news that Amber had written Family History Mysteries: Buried Past. This will be the first in what could become a series of TV movies for Hallmark Movies and Mysteries.

We of course shared the news on our social media feeds and later on AmberBenson.TV itself. I have a very exciting update especially if you're an Amber fan living in the USA Family History Mysteries: Buried Past will be premiering on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries channel on Sunday, 8 January at 7/6 C

The 8th of January is as many fans will know Amber's birthday and I think it's amazing that Amber’s brand-new original mystery has its premiere on her birthday.

If this is the first time you're hearing about Family History Mysteries: Buried past let me tell you a more about this exciting new mystery.

Family History Mysteries: Buried Past centres on Sophie McClaren played by Janel Parrish as a genealogist. She brings families together using her expertise and ability to dig into the past to find answers.

Update: If you have read the Deadline.com article you may have noticed that I have made an edit and changed Sophie’s surname. A fan who has had the opportunity to see the movie told me that in Buried Past the lead character's name is Sophie McClaren not McClure as reported by Deadline.com, it’s also the name the character is given on IMDb too. Having checked IMDb again there are now two listings for the movie, this new version has Sophie’s surname as McClaren. I'm not criticising either of these outlets as information may have been correct at the time of publication and I don't want to speculate on what might have happened. I have seen a screenshot however that does confirm the character’s name as Sophie McClaren.

Sophie's skills and knowledge shall be tested like never before when she discovers her close friend Jonathan is in need of a bone marrow transplant. Help is on hand from Jonathan's twin brother Jackson who also happens to be Sophie's old flame. Together Sophie and Jackson search for the twins birth father in a bid to save Jonathan. As Sophie and Jackson work together it gives her the push to finally look into her own past.

Hallmark have released a trailer for the movie ahead of its premiere which I have embedded below.

If you live in the USA and want more information about Hallmark Movies and Mysteries and how you can see Buried Past click here and press the channel locator button.

Unfortunately for UK fans I don't yet have any information on when it will be shown here. I am planning to contact Hallmark to enquire about this and if I get any news I will share it with you.

In the meantime though I'm still incredibly excited for Amber but also for fans and friends who are based in the USA and will get the opportunity to see Buried Past for the first time on Sunday. It's a fantastic birthday present for Amber and another reason to celebrate.

Amber Has Written A Brand-New Mystery For Hallmark

12/31/2022

On the 30th of November entertainment website Deadline.com broke the hugely exciting news that Amber has written a brand-new original mystery for Hallmark.

Family History Mysteries: Buried Past centres on Sophie McClaren played by Janel Parrish as a genealogist. Sophie's skills and knowledge shall be tested like never before when she discovers her close friend Jonathan is in need of a bone marrow transplant. Help is on hand from Jonathan's twin brother Jackson who also happens to be Sophie's ex. Together Sophie and Jackson search for the twins birth father in a bid to save Jonathan. As Sophie and Jackson work together it gives her the push to finally look into her own past.

Update: If you have read the Deadline.com article you may have noticed that I have made an edit and changed Sophie’s surname. I have seen a screenshot however that does confirm the character’s name as Sophie McClaren.

Amber has written for Hallmark on three previous occasions including Murder in Mind & Death By Design two movies in the popular Morning Show Mysteries series. The series was based on a novel by Al Roker and Dick Lochte. Amber also wrote the festive romantic movie A Family Christmas Gift this was an original story written by Amber and she also co-wrote the teleplay.

In October I attended Cross Roads 5 a convention in Birmingham where Amber was a guest. During a Q&A I was lucky enough to ask Amber if she had any upcoming projects she revealed to an excited audience that she had written a new movie for Hallmark and it had been given the go-ahead.

Correction: I also want to make another correction due to something that I misunderstood. Family History Mysteries Buried Past is based on a series of novels by Brynn Bonner. Amber has written the script and I believe adapted the material for the screen. I pride myself on posting accurate information, this was down to something I misunderstood during a Q&A (mentioned above) with Amber that I attended. The mistake was mine and Amber was not at fault in anyway. I apologised to Amber and visitors to the site for the error in my original post.

For more information about Family History Mysteries: Buried Past click the link below to visit the article from Deadline.com

https://deadline.com/2022/11/janel-parrish-hallmark-family-history-mysteries-buried-past-1235184573/

The good news for Amber fans in the USA is that according to Deadline.com Family History Mysteries: Buried Past premiere is planned for January 2023 the exact date to be confirmed. As soon as I have more information I will post an update. Unfortunately for UK fans there is no timeframe currently set for its UK premiere. From past experience with Hallmark movies I know it can take around a year before they debut here. I will of course try to find out more information as soon as I can and fingers crossed we won't have to wait too long.

I apologise for the length of time it has taken me to get this post online this was due to work commitments and a busy time over the festive period. I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie and I'm so pleased for Amber. I'd also like to wish everyone a happy new year!

Amber Again Teams Up with FORT LA To Create Another Halloween Trail In Los Angeles

10/12/2022

Halloween is almost upon us once more and Amber's latest project is a spooky treat for fans living in the LA area.

For the third time Amber has created a trail of five unique houses in Los Angeles with a spooky past or connection to Witches called: Witch Houses 3: Something Wicked This Way Comes.

This trail was curated in association with Friends of Residential Treasures: LA (FORT) "Inspiring pride in Los Angeles by empowering people to see our city in new ways through its tapestry of neighbourhoods and homes — and the stories they tell."

Amber wrote The Echo Park Coven trilogy of novels set in Los Angeles and a number of other spooky novels and short stories. She is no stranger to researching myths and legends and chilling events. This is the third time she has worked with FORT LA to create a trail and here’s how she describes it in the official guide:

"Greetings, goblins and ghouls!

It’s your witchy trail curator here, and for a third year in a row, we’ve enticed you into taking a tour of some of the most bone-chilling and otherworldly houses in our fair (and not so faire) city!

As a writer of witchy tales and spooky stories about things that go “bump” in the night, I’ve always been inspired by the masterful prose of one of the true kings of horror, science fiction and fantasy, Ray Bradbury, a scribe whose life and work are very closely tied to our city of angels. So for each stop on the trail, I’ve recommended a Bradbury companion tale to peruse, should you wish to continue your travels into the October Country under the covers, flashlight in hand.”

For more information about this fascinating, spooky and witchy trail visit fortla.org and enter your email address. This will allow you to download a PDF which will give you more information about all five locations included on the trail and the rules that are to be followed for anyone who wants to experience it for themselves.

This year there is a brand-new feature that can make you a part of this latest spooky trail. FORT LA have a special filter on Instagram, just activate the filter, snap a photo of yourself in front of the houses and watch the magic happen. Amber also posted instructions on her official Instagram account, to view her post click here.

Amber shared an article about her new trail on the NBC Los Angeles website, to find out more click the link below.

https://www.nbclosangeles.com/the-scene/an-enchanting-new-tour-explores-las-charming-witch-houses/3000513/

I love history and if I could I'd definitely be taking Amber's latest trail myself. I hope everyone who gets the chance enjoys this latest spooky journey into the heart of Los Angeles.

Amber Benson To Star In Upcoming Movie I Saw The TV Glow

10/4/2022

If you follow our dedicated Facebook and Twitter feeds you will have seen the hugely exciting news that Amber is set to star in upcoming horror thriller, I Saw The TV Glow. This will be the first time Amber has appeared in an on-screen role since she starred as Professor Samantha Rand in 2019's The Nightmare Gallery.

As many fans will know in recent years Amber has transitioned from acting to writing, including the Calliope-Reaper Jones series and the Echo Park Coven Series of novels. Following the completion of these successful series Amber began writing for television. In 2017 she wrote Oscar Pistorius: Blade Runner Killer and 2018’s Terror in The Woods followed in 2020 by A Murder To Remember. These three movies were true crime films based on real-life events for the Lifetime Network.

Then Amber returned to fiction writing with A Murder In Mind and Death By Design, both part of the popular Morning Show Mysteries series for Hallmark. As well as A Family Christmas Gift she wrote both the original story and co-wrote the teleplay for this charming festive movie, again for Hallmark. Amber has also been developing The Witches of Echo Park, the first in her Echo Park Coven trilogy of novels for television. These are some of the most recent projects in her impressive and growing body of work as a writer.

In August however The Hollywood Reporter exclusively broke the news that Amber would be returning to the screen as part of the cast for the horror thriller, I Saw The TV Glow. I was both surprised and delighted that Amber is returning to the screen after a few years away. The Hollywood Reporter states that the film is now in postproduction and Amber shared her own excitement at being part of the film. Below is a screenshot of the tweet from her official account.

I was lucky enough to meet Amber again at the Cross Roads 5 Convention in Birmingham last weekend. During a Q&A session with fans I asked Amber if she could share any more about I Saw The TV Glow. She said, "If you like genre shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Supernatural you will love this film."

A big thank you to Amber for being kind enough to answer my question!

When more information about, I Saw The TV Glow is available I will post a further update. In the meantime to read the full article from the Hollywood Reporter click here.

My apologies for the long delay in posting this update in the latest Amber News section. I've had a particularly busy time with work commitments and planning my trip to join fellow fans at Cross Roads 5. A big thank you to fellow Amber fan Laragh for giving me a heads up about this exciting news.
